My Week in Pictures – 365V – X

Tenth week in pictures.

We had breakfast for dinner in an American diner in Paris. It was pretty yummy and the staff is nice.

I took a blurry picture of Tobias.

Photographed a detail of the kitchen window.

Took a photo of Pablo.

Went to the movies at Forum Les Halles. I didn’t like the movie.

Started to read a great comic.

Watched the “Portugal Vs Germany” soccer game in a café with friends and had fun despite the fact that the Portuguese lost.

My Week in Pictures – 365V – IX

Here we go, the previous week in photos. I’ll try to be good and post this past week next Monday, as god intended.

Sunday was Telmo’s birthday. Happy birthday dear!

Monday we got treated to a surprise Ukrainian birthday dinner by our Canadian friends.

Tuesday, Chih-Chun and I plotted a crochet monkey over coffee.

Wednesday it was as hot as hell.

Thursday, Wilmie and I hunted for a pan in which she can boil her fimo sushi.

Friday I started the above mentioned monkey. It’s going ok, fingers crossed.

Saturday Telmo and I strolled around Pont des Arts. It was a great day out!

My Week in Pictures – 365V – VIII

Trying to catch up. Still the week before last.

One of the books I’m trying to tackle right now. I’m finding it difficult to put the digital kingdom down and pick the books up. Must divise a strategy. The one I have right now isn’t working.

Green leaves out the window.

Trying to elevate my mood by painting the nails red. Also ended up doing some weight lifting. It worked, somewhat.

Pizza, because pizza.

Around Beaubourg, having lunch outside.

Coffee time with a friend around the neighborhood.

On Saturday we went out to celebrate Jean-Baptiste’s birthday. Happy birthday dude!

About focus, life and work

Paris Spring

I stress about focus a lot. Crisp images are my goal, one day, when I can afford gear to make them.
I usually don’t use post production sharpen tools. I find that they cheapen the photo and only fool amateurs.

The problem with low-end equipment (aka, affordable DSLR and lenses) is that it’s not very sharp. You can try and use only that one aperture point where your favorite lens takes the crispest photos or, like me, you swallow your pride and keep on taking the best photo you can take.

To me, swallowing the pride and posting anything that isn’t perfect is very hard. But if I didn’t I would have no public photos and would have stop photographing a long time ago.

Making photos encourages you to learn and thrive and take better photos each time. It’s the ONLY WAY to learn. You never stop learning.

When I look back I’m very glad I didn’t stop. I’m glad everyday for not giving up the previous day. Everyday.

I’m just a gal trying to capture light with a machine. I’m not perfect and my machine is not perfect either but that’s not stopping me. And it should not stop you either.

My Week in Pictures – 365V – V

I made it pass the first month without failing a day of Project 365. That is pretty cool, in my book!

This week in Paris the rainy days carried on their grey, gloomy work of depressing us all but wine, baguettes and friends are always a good antidote.

Taxis at night in Paris are becoming an unicorn. When you really need them there is no vacant one to be found. (I need unicorns a lot but end up always cooking beef steaks instead…)

Baguettes are one of the beautiful things in this city. There are bad, good and great baguettes. The most common kind are great ones! Oh, and the butter…

More “Sad Girls in Windows” photos for my set.

Wednesday was time for a crochet lesson with a friend at Mamie Gâteaux, a lovely tea and cake shop that looks like a dolls house.

My man’s hair is so great I had to get a picture of it, for posterity when he’s all white.

Just a robot in the desktop.

And Saturday was Steph’s birthday. Happy birthday girl!

My Week in Pictures – 365V – III

Third week of Project 365, year five.
Stuck at home because of the rain. I like rain but it’s not very convenient to take photos. It’s a bit depressing when it comes to go out with a camera and an umbrella. But I managed to (almost) catch up on a project I want to share with you later and still went out to run some errants on Champs-Élysées. If you ever need to go to Champs-Élysées, when raining it’s the best time. Much less crowded than on a sunny day!

My Week in Pictures – 365V – II

Week 2 of the Project 365, year 5.

The thing is, it’s hard to make different pictures everyday. This is what’s good about the exercise. It forces you to try and think of something to photograph, or to see the world though a different perspective (literally). You are still going to make lots of boring pictures (at least I am) but the practice turns into a thought agility that is very useful.

Chinese New Year Parade – Year of the Dragon – Paris 2012

Chinese New Year Parade 2012

For the past two years I tried to go to the Chinese New Year Parade in Paris and never made it. This year I did. It was so much fun! Lot’s of color, texture, people and a general feeling of energy.
It was very, very cold but it was worth it.

My Paris Photo of the Day

Rue des Barres is a little cobblestone street very near Île Saint-Louis. It’s charming and it has a few nice shops. The church you see up the street is the St-Gervais-et-St-Protais Church that, according to Wikipedia, has a very good french baroque style organ. I must check it out one of these days.
