My Week in Pictures – 365V – VIII

Trying to catch up. Still the week before last.

#50
One of the books I’m trying to tackle right now. I’m finding it difficult to put the digital kingdom down and pick the books up. Must divise a strategy. The one I have right now isn’t working.

#51
Green leaves out the window.

#52
Trying to elevate my mood by painting the nails red. Also ended up doing some weight lifting. It worked, somewhat.

#53

Around Beaubourg, having lunch outside.

Coffee time with a friend around the neighborhood.

#56
On Saturday we went out to celebrate Jean-Baptiste’s birthday. Happy birthday dude!

Avoiding Purple Fringing

This week, because I used a very wide aperture (f1.7, f2.5) and the light is very bright right now in the day time, some of the photos I took got an unattractive purple fringing. I just noticed it after several photos and got a little mad with myself because I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Purple Fringing

Purple fringing is that sort of light “specter” you get on the edges of photographed subjects where the bright light and the shadows meet.

Purple Fringing zoom in

You can avoid that unappealing aberration if you use a narrow aperture when the light is very bright. It will give you longer depth of field (your background is going to be more in focus than with a wide aperture) but it will give you a crisper image with less chromatic aberrations around the edges.

To do that turn you camera to Aperture Priority Mode (turn your mode dial to “A”) and set the aperture (f value) to f11 or smaller (the higher the f value, the narrower the aperture).

My Week in Pictures – 365V – VII

Catching up. This is the week before last, in pictures.
I missed three days because I took pictures with a secondary camera and they disappeared from the memory card. Yay… :(

#45
Boulevard Exelmans, walking home from the metro.

#46

#47
My online shop was launched. I will talk more about it later.

#48

All in all, not the best week so far.

About focus, life and work

Paris Spring

I stress about focus a lot. Crisp images are my goal, one day, when I can afford gear to make them.
I usually don’t use post production sharpen tools. I find that they cheapen the photo and only fool amateurs.

The problem with low-end equipment (aka, affordable DSLR and lenses) is that it’s not very sharp. You can try and use only that one aperture point where your favorite lens takes the crispest photos or, like me, you swallow your pride and keep on taking the best photo you can take.

To me, swallowing the pride and posting anything that isn’t perfect is very hard. But if I didn’t I would have no public photos and would have stop photographing a long time ago.

Making photos encourages you to learn and thrive and take better photos each time. It’s the ONLY WAY to learn. You never stop learning.

When I look back I’m very glad I didn’t stop. I’m glad everyday for not giving up the previous day. Everyday.

I’m just a gal trying to capture light with a machine. I’m not perfect and my machine is not perfect either but that’s not stopping me. And it should not stop you either.

My Week in Pictures – 365V – V

I made it pass the first month without failing a day of Project 365. That is pretty cool, in my book!

This week in Paris the rainy days carried on their grey, gloomy work of depressing us all but wine, baguettes and friends are always a good antidote.

#29
Taxis at night in Paris are becoming an unicorn. When you really need them there is no vacant one to be found. (I need unicorns a lot but end up always cooking beef steaks instead…)

#30
Baguettes are one of the beautiful things in this city. There are bad, good and great baguettes. The most common kind are great ones! Oh, and the butter…

#31
More “Sad Girls in Windows” photos for my set.

#32
Wednesday was time for a crochet lesson with a friend at Mamie Gâteaux, a lovely tea and cake shop that looks like a dolls house.

#33
My man’s hair is so great I had to get a picture of it, for posterity when he’s all white.

#34
Just a robot in the desktop.

#35
And Saturday was Steph’s birthday. Happy birthday girl!

My Week in Pictures – 365V – III

Third week of Project 365, year five.
Stuck at home because of the rain. I like rain but it’s not very convenient to take photos. It’s a bit depressing when it comes to go out with a camera and an umbrella. But I managed to (almost) catch up on a project I want to share with you later and still went out to run some errants on Champs-Élysées. If you ever need to go to Champs-Élysées, when raining it’s the best time. Much less crowded than on a sunny day!
